Prof. Richard Hull, Warwick’s town historian, author of several books on the community and promoter of Warwick’s heritage as a speaker to area schools, clubs and organizations, has been selected Warwick’s 2013-14 Citizen of the Year. In a nomination letter, Hull was praised for his many contributions to elevating his community through education about local history. A professor of African Studies at NYU, Hull was described as “a great example of citizen exemplar for continually supporting the community through his active participation in many events while sharing his passion for learning, history and issues of local interest.” One of many awards event co-chairs, Leo Kaytes and Stan Martin said they were pleased with the quality of nominations and excited about the selection of Hull as Warwick’s Citizen of the Year. “Dr. Hull fits perfectly with our desire to find volunteers who have demonstrated a commitment to community service over an extended period of time,” said Kaytes. Besides his involvement in local activities, Hull has been recognized for his achievements on the state, national and international level. He has received the United Nations Distinguished Citizen Award, the Orange County Revered Citizen Award, the Distinguished Africanist Award from the New York African Studies Association and is a four-time winner of the NYU Teaching Excellence Award. Hull is founder and CEO of African Consulting Associates, a political risk analyst entity. The professor is the son of Dr. Donald and Dorothy Hull.
